Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin suprāscrīptus, suprāscriptum.
Etymology: < classical Latin suprāscrīptus written above as a correction (attested as suprāscriptum, neuter noun; frequent in post-classical Latin in sense ‘mentioned above’) < suprā- supra- prefix + scrīptus , past participle of scrībere to write (see scribe n.1). Compare earlier superscript adj.
