Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin supīnāt-, supīnāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin supīnāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of supīnāre to lay (a person) on his or her back, to turn (the hands) palm upwards < supīnus supine adj. Compare earlier supinator n. and supination n.
Anatomy and Physiology.
1. transitive. To turn (the hand or forelimb) so that the palm faces upwards or forwards; to put (the hand or foot) into supination. Opposed to pronate v.
