Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin tautopodia (from 4th cent. in grammarians), or its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek ταὐτοποδία repetition of the same foot in the same verse < ancient Greek ταὐτο- tauto- comb. form + ποδ- , πούς foot (see -pod comb. form) + -ία -y suffix³. Compare German Tautopodie (1850 or earlier).
