Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pissocēros.
Etymology: < classical Latin pissocēros (Pliny) < ancient Greek πισσόκηρος (Aristotle) < πίσσα (Attic πίττα ) pitch (see pissasphalt n.) + κηρός beeswax (see cere n.).
Now historical.
The mixture of resin and wax of which the second foundation of a bee's honeycomb was formerly thought to be made.
