A member of a youth organization (known in the United Kingdom as the Scout Association and in the United States as Boy Scouts of America) founded for boys in 1908 by Lord Baden-Powell, intended to develop character esp. by open-air activities. Also (in plural) the organization itself.The term ‘Boy’ was officially omitted from the title of the U.K. organization, which since 1990 has admitted girls.
