单词 umeboshi
释义

umeboshin.

Brit. /uːməˈbɒʃi/, /uːməˈbəʊʃi/, U.S. /ˌuməˈboʊʃi/, /ˌuməˈbɑʃi/
Inflections: Plural unchanged.
Forms: 1800s oumebos, 1800s– umeboshi.
Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese umeboshi.
Etymology: < Japanese umeboshi (15th cent. or earlier; 1603 as umeboxi in Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam) < ume ume n. + -boshi , combining form of hoshi , nominalized stem of hosu to dry. Compare earlier mebos n.In quot. 1822 via French †oumébos (1819 in the passage translated). This form is probably based on a regional (Kyushu) pronunciation of the Japanese word; compare the early transcriptions (in Latin contexts) umebos (C. P. Thunberg 1784) and umè bos (E. Kaempfer 1712, denoting a slightly different dish).
In Japanese cookery: pickled and dried ume fruit, eaten as a light meal or snack, typically served with rice.
