Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Dutch. Etymon: Dutch boonken.
Etymology: Apparently < Dutch boonken (in boonkens holwortele : 1554 in Dodoens; < an inflected form of a first element of uncertain origin (formed with the suffix -ken -kin suffix) + holwortele , denoting species of the plant genus Corydalis (see holwort n.; compare hollow-root n.)), perhaps with alteration in English by association with bunny n.2 (compare catkin n.).
