Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymons: French valure; French valur, valour.
Etymology: Probably partly < Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French valure strength, efficacy, potency, worth (mid 14th cent.; < valoir to be worth (see vail v.1) + -ure -ure suffix1), and partly Anglo-Norman and Old French valur, variant of valour, valor, etc. valour n., with assimilation of the ending to -ure suffix1. Compare valeur n.With Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French valure compare Old Occitan valure value (early 13th cent.).
