Any of various plants having a feature likened to a navel; spec. (a) wall pennywort, Umbilicus rupestris (family Crassulaceae), having round, fleshy, peltate leaves with a central dimple; (b) (more fully Venus's navelwort) a plant of the genus Omphalodes (family Boraginaceae), having seeds with a navel-like depression; esp. O. linifolia; (c) (more fully †water navelwort) any plant of the genus Hydrocotyle (family Apiaceae ( Umbelliferae)), esp. marsh pennywort, H. vulgaris, with round peltate leaves. Also with other distinguishing words.
