Etymology: < water n. + bomb n. In sense 3 after German Wasserbombe depth charge (1917 or earlier).
1. A piece of firefighting apparatus consisting of a water-filled vessel (typically wooden) with a gunpowder-filled case at its core, the explosion of which disperses water in every direction. Now historical and rare.
