释义

whingern.1

/ˈhwɪŋ(ɡ)ə//ˈhwɪndʒə/

The pronunciation with /ŋ/ or /ŋɡ/ is vouched for by several instances in rhyme; that with // is indicated by the spelling whinjer (quot. 1823 at main sense) and implied by the form of Gaelic cuinnsear dagger, sword, which is a loanword from Scots.
Chiefly Scottish. Obsolete exc. Historical.
