Etymology: < Calabar, on the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa.
Calabar-bean n. the seed of Physostigma venenosum, a climbing leguminous plant of West Africa. Used as a remedy in certain diseases.Also called the Ordeal-bean, as it is administered to people suspected of witchcraft.
