Compare nayword n.1In sense 2 after Dutch jawoord statement of consent, especially in law (1588; now only with reference to a partner consenting to marriage (1625)); compare (with the same senses) Middle Low German jāwōrt, Middle High German jāwort (German Jawort, now only with reference to a partner consenting to marriage (17th cent.)).
Obsolete. rare.
