Etymology: < zoo- comb. form + gyroscope n.Apparently coined by E. J. Muybridge (1830–1904), English photographer.
Now historical.
A modified form of zoetrope used to project a series of photographic images of animals or other subjects in order to display their movement; cf. zoopraxiscope n.
