单词 afare
释义

afarev.

Forms: see a- prefix1 and fare v.1; also Old English afæwð (3rd singular present indicative, transmission error).
Origin: A word inherited from Germanic.
Etymology: Cognate with or formed similarly to Middle Dutch ervāren (Dutch ervaren ), Middle Low German ervāren , Old High German irfaran (Middle High German ervaren , German erfahren ) < the Germanic base of or- prefix (compare a- prefix1) + the Germanic base of fare v.1In Old English a strong verb of Class VI. In Middle English attested only in past participle afare , which could alternatively be interpreted as showing a variant of ifare , past participle of fare v.1; compare a- prefix2 and variant readings in quots. Among the Germanic parallels cited above, senses relating to spatial movement are found only in Old High German (‘to go away, to depart’, ‘to pass’), Middle High German (‘to travel’, ‘to travel through (an area)’, ‘to reach (a place)’), and Middle Low German (‘to travel through (an area), to reach (a place)’). Dutch ervaren and modern German erfahren only show extended uses (‘to experience’ and similar senses).
Obsolete.
1. intransitive. To depart, go. to afare of licham: to depart from the body, to die.
