The shaft rotates, causing the pinion to move. The standard Bendix drive depends on inertia to provide meshing of the drive. To start the engine, the Bendix drive starts automatically when the starter motor begins to turn. The Bendix drive is normally made out of mesh and separated from the flywheel ring gear. |
