aphthous ulcers

aphthous ulcers

A term which, although tautological, is in common use. Aphthous ulcers are very common, small, painful mouth ulcers, affecting people between the ages of 10 and 40, females more than males. They are a few millimetres in diameter and up to five in number and occur on the insides of the lips and cheeks and on the edges of the tongue. They last for 4 14 days.
