Harrison, Peter

(1716–75) architect; born in York, England. Settling in Newport, R.I. (1740), he introduced Palladianism to New England in public buildings designed for Newport, Boston, and Cambridge (1748–61) and assembled the colonies' most important private architectural library.

Harrison, Peter

(1716–1775)American architect who worked in Boston, Newport, RI, and Cambridge, MA. One of the first colonial architects to use the Palladian style. Designed Kings Chapel, Boston, adapted from Gibbs’s style. Also designed the Redwood Library (1750), the Touro Synagogue (1763), and the Brick Market (1773), all located in Newport, RI.
