Hubel, David Hunter

(hyo͞o`bəl), 1926–2013, American neurobiologist, b. Ontario, Canada, to American parents. In 1958, Hubel joined Torsten WieselWiesel, Torsten Nils,
1924–, Swedish neurobiologist, b. Uppsala, Sweden. After earning a degree in medicine from Karolinska Univ., Stockholm (1954), he took a research position at Johns Hopkins, where he began his work with David Hunter Hubel.

Their most famous studies were in the area of visual perception, with particular emphasis on the nerve impulses mediating between the retina and the brain.
