Helge Gyllenberg
Gyllenberg, Helge
Born July 4, 1924. Finnish microbiologist. President of the Academy of Finland since 1974.
Gyllenberg, a graduate of the University of Helsinki, joined the faculty of the university’s Institute of Microbiology in 1948, becoming professor of microbiology there in 1972. From 1971 to 1973 he served as chairman of the State Committee on Agriculture and Forestry in Finland. Since 1974 he has been chairman of the Finnish study group on scientific and technical cooperation with the countries of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON).
Gyllenberg has done research in the application of mathematical methods in biology. He has also dealt with general and industrial microbiology and environmental protection. Gyllenberg has been a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1976.
