halogen bulb

halogen bulb

An incandescent light bulb that uses a higher-pressure glass chamber made of fused quartz (fused silica). Halogen bulb advantages are their small size and cooler color temperatures. The cooler color temperature is not to be confused with how hot they get. In fact, they generate so much heat that if you plug a new halogen bulb into its socket with your bare hands, you can leave a residue of oil on the glass that can boil and shorten its life. See incandescent bulb, fluorescent bulb, LED bulb and color temperature.
