be out on the town

be out on the town

To be visting a town or city for a day or evening for the purpose of having an enjoyable time, typically by visiting various establishments, such as restaurants, clubs, etc. We were out on the town last night for Valerie's birthday, that's why we're all exhausted today. Since we're usually home with the kids, my husband and I are very excited to be out on the town tonight.See also: on, out, town
