Irina Press


Press, Irina Natanovna

 

Born Mar. 10, 1939, in Kharkov. Soviet track-and-field athlete. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1964.

In 1962, Press graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Railroad Transport Engineering. She received the degree of candidate of pedagogical sciences in 1972.

Between 1959 and 1967, Press was women’s champion of the USSR 13 times. She was a champion at the Olympic games of 1960 and 1964 and held the world and European records in the hurdles and track-and-field pentathlon events seven times between 1959 and 1965. Since 1967 she has been working in the Central Council of Dynamo.

Press has been awarded two orders.
