Karbuna Treasure
Karbuna Treasure
a complex of objects of the early stage of the Tripol’e culture found at the site of a Tripol’e settlement near the village of Karbuna in present-day Novye Aneny Raion, Moldavian SSR. It is the only discovery of such a treasure in Eastern Europe. Numerous items were found in a clay vessel, covered by another vessel, including copper axes, lamellar and spiral bracelets, beads, and anthropomorphic figurines; axes and beads made of colored marble and stone; an amulet made from a human tooth; a bone female figurine; and beads and decorative plates made of seashells. The ritual significance of some of the objects permits the supposition that the owner of the treasure was a tribal chief and priest.
