Angiostrongylus costaricensis

A filiform intestinal nematode endemic to Central and South America, which is found primarily in snails and veronicellid slugs (the obligate intermediate hosts) and in its definitive hosts, rodents (Sigmodon hispidus, Rattus rattus, et al.); humans are accidental hosts when larvae are ingested, resulting in abdominal angiostrongylosis.
