Kazan Chronicler

Kazan Chronicler

a historical narrative about the Kazan Khanate from earliest times until its annexation by Russia in 1552, probably written in 1564–66. Its anonymous author had spent 20 years in Tatar captivity. In writing his history he made use of Tatar legends, written sources, and personal impressions. The work, which has survived in many copies, is a valuable source for the history of the Kazan Khanate and the Russian state prior to the mid-16th century.
