Kempendiai

(also Kempendeein), a river in the Yakut ASSR, a right tributary of the Viliui River. Length, 266 km; basin area, 3,100 sq km. The river flows along the Lena Plateau. It is fed primarily by snow and rain. Its mean annual flow rate at the village of Kempendiai (125 km from the mouth) is 2.5 cu m per sec. The river freezes in the second half of October and thaws in the second half of May. In the basin there are deposits of rock salt, with saline springs.
