KAT2B

KAT2B

A gene on chromosome 3p24 that encodes a ubiquitously expressed enzyme which has significant acetyltransferase activity with core histones (H3 and H4) and nucleosome core particles. KAT2B inhibits cell cycle progression and counteracts the mitogenic activity of the adenoviral oncoprotein E1A. It is recruited by HIV-1’s Tat protein; it may regulate its transactivating activity and help induce chromatin remodelling of proviral genes. KAT2B is most abundant in the heart and in skeletal muscle.
