Iuribei

a river in Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR; located on the Gyda Peninsula. The Iuribei is 479 km long and drains an area of 11,700 sq km. It empties into Gyda Gulf of the Kara Sea. In some places the river has an extremely winding course. The river is fed mainly by snow. It freezes over in October, and the ice breaks up in June. There are many lakes in the basin of the river.

It is formed by the confluence of the Levyi Iuribei River, which rises in Lake Iarroto Vtoroe, and the Pravyi Iuribei River, which rises in Lake Iarroto Pervoe. The Iuribei empties into Baidarata Bay of the Kara Sea. It is fed mainly by snow. High water occurs in June and July. The river freezes over in October, and the ice breaks up in June. In the 17th century, the Iuribei, which was then known as the Mutnaia River, was part of a route from northern Russia to Mangazeia.
