Iurii Alekseevich Kuznetsov
Kuznetsov, Iurii Alekseevich
Born Apr. 19, 1903, in Nikol’sk, in present-day Vologda Oblast. Soviet geologist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966; corresponding member, 1958).
Kuznetsov graduated from the University of Tomsk in 1924. Beginning in 1930 he taught at the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute, becoming a professor in 1938, and at the same time worked in Western Siberian geological exploration organizations studying the geology of the Altai, Kuznetsk Alatau, Vostochnyi Saian, and the Enisei Ridge. Since 1958, Kuznetsov has been at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1970 he was awarded the A. P. Karpinskii Prize for work on the theory of magmatic formations. He has discovered a number of industrial deposits, including gold and refractory clay. Kuznetsov has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
