Titov, Iurii Evlampievich

 

Born Nov. 27, 1935, in Omsk. Soviet gymnast and gymnastics coach. Honored Master of Sport (1956); international-class judge (1968). Member of the CPSU since 1969.

Titov was all-around champion of the USSR (1958, 1961), Europe (1959), and the world (1962). In 1956 he became an Olympic gymnastics champion in team competitions. Competing in individual sports in combined events, he was champion of the USSR five times between 1958 and 1962, European champion six times between 1957 and 1961, and world champion in 1958 and 1962. Titov won 13 gold medals and 20 silver and bronze medals at European and world championships and at the Olympic Games. He has been president of the World Gymnastic Federation since 1976.

Titov has been awarded three orders and various medals.
