Kermadec Deep

 

a deep-water trough in the south-western Pacific Ocean, near the eastern shores of the Kermadec Islands. It extends 1,200 km, in an almost meridional direction. In 1958 an expedition by the ship Vitiaz’ determined a maximum depth of 10,047 m. In the north the Kermadec Deep is connected with the Tonga Deep.
