Kenbaev, Moldakhmet Syzdykovich

 

Born July 25, 1925, in Kzyl-Orda. Soviet painter. Honored Art Worker of the Kazakh SSR (1963). Became a member of the CPSU in 1965.

Kenbaev studied under F. P. Reshetnikov at the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Arts Institute in 1950 to 1956. He has been working in Alma-Alta since 1956. Among Kenbaev’s works are historical paintings (A. Dzhangil’din’s Detachment, 1957, T. G. Shevchenko Kazakh Art Gallery, Alma-Ata), genre paintings (Feltmaking, 1958, T. G. Shevchenko Kazakh Art Gallery), and landscapes (Catching a Horse, 1957, Tret’iakov Gallery, Moscow; In the Foothills, 1967, T. G. Shevchenko Kazakh Art Gallery). His paintings are marked by a lyrical and epic spirit. Kenbaev has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
