Nesterov, Ivan Ivanovich

 

Born Jan. 2, 1932, in the village of Paratkul’, in what is now Dalmatovo Raion, Kurgan Oblast. Soviet geologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1966.

Nesterov graduated from the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute in 1954. In 1971 he became director of the Western Siberian Geological Oil Exploration Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Geology of the RSFSR. Of particular importance are his contributions to the geology of Western Siberia. He substantiated a new regional stratigraphic scale that provides a theoretical basis for the petroleum-geological subdivision of sections of era-ton deposits. He developed theoretical principles for predicting the presence of oil and gas in large regions and local areas.

Nesterov received the Lenin Prize in 1970 and has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and a medal.
