Ivanov, Ivan Ivanovich
Born July 30 (Aug. 11), 1862, in St. Petersburg; died Dec. 17, 1939, in Leningrad. Soviet mathematician. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1924).
Ivanov graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1886. Beginning in 1902 he was a professor at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. Ivanov ascertained (1891) that the theories of algebraic numbers of E.I. Zolotarev and R. Dedekind, although different in form, are equivalent. In his doctoral dissertation (1901) he obtained a number of results concerning the distribution of prime numbers.
