Ivan Spiridonovich Dzhabadari

Born Dec. 16 (28), 1852, in the village of Sagaredzho, in present-day Sagaredzho Raion, Georgian SSR; died Apr. 25 (May 8), 1913, in Tbilisi. Revolutionary Narodnik (Populist) from the Georgian nobility.

From 1872 to 1874, Dzhabadari studied at the Medical-Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg, where he participated in student demonstrations. In 1874 he conducted propaganda campaigns among the workers in Moscow and in 1875 was one of the organizers of the All-Russian Social-Revolutionary Organization, as well as the author of its statute. On Apr. 4, 1875, he was arrested in Moscow. On Mar. 14, 1877, in the Trial of the Fifty, he was sentenced to five years at hard labor. He later worked as an attorney in Tbilisi and took part in the 1905 revolutionary movement. His memoirs were published in Byloe, nos. 5 and 6, 1906, and nos. 8, 9, and 10, 1907.
