Kholova

Kholova

 

a river in Novgorod Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Msta. The Kholova River is 126 km long and drains an area of 1,900 sq km. It flows through the Il’men’ Lowland. The river is fed by various sources but predominantly by snow. The mean flow rate 34 km from the mouth is 15.6 cu m per sec. The Kholova freezes in November or, sometimes, early January, and the ice breaks up in April. Timber is floated down the river. The settlement of Kresttsy is situated on the river.
