Malcolm, Norman (Adrian)

(1911–90) philosopher; born in Selden, Kans. Earning a Harvard doctorate, he joined the Princeton faculty in 1940; after serving in the U.S. Navy (1942–45), he spent most of his remaining American career at Cornell (1947–58), then emigrated to Britain. He wrote a 1958 memoir of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who greatly influenced his own philosophy.
