Kim Si-Sup

(pseudonyms, Maewoltang and Tongbong). Born 1435; died March 1493. Korean writer and scholar.

Kim Si-sup was a pioneer in the short story genre and wrote landscape lyrics and satirical verse in onmun, the Korean alphabet. The Collected Poems of Maewoltang was published in 17 volumes in the 17th century. He is also the author of the collection Tales From Kumo (1471), of which five stories have survived. Kim Si-sup was the first Korean prose writer to depart from Chinese subjects and to depict the common people.
