Mamoudzou is the capital and largest city. The land is gently rolling, with some mountains of ancient volcanic origin and deep ravines.
..... Click the link for more information. . It lies on the Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean on the NE coast of Grande-Terre, Mayotte's main island, near the mouth of the Kaoueni R. Meat, fish, coconuts, coffee, and vanilla are traded in the city, and ylang-ylang oil is manufactured there. In 1962 the capital was moved there from Dzaoudzi on Pamandzi Island, to which Mamoudzou is connected by ferry.
