Kireevsk

a city (settlement until 1956); center of Kireevsk Raion, Tula Oblast, RSFSR. It is 20 km from the Dedilovo railroad station (on the Tula-Riazhsk line) and is linked with Tula (40 km away) by bus service. Population, 21,000 (1970). Coal is mined there (Moscow Area Coal Basin), as is iron ore. Industry includes the Tula Metal Structural Components Plant, a mica factory, factories producing hosiery and artificial fur, a dairy, and furniture manufacturing enterprises. There is also a mechanical and technological technicum.
