Onda
Onda
(also Strel’naia or Shuovini), a river in the Karelian ASSR. The Onda empties from the left into the Baltic-White Sea Canal. It is 197 km long and drains an area of 4,080 sq km. The Onda originates in Uglozero on the eastern edge of the West Karelian Elevation and passes through a series of lakes, including Ondozero. It is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate at the Onda Hydroelectric Power Plant, located 7 km from the mouth, is 142 cu m per sec. Water from Vygozero enters the reservoir of the power plant through the Maiguba Canal. The Onda is used for floating timber.
