Nagishkin, Dmitrii Dmitrievich

Born Sept. 30 (Oct. 13), 1909, in Chita; died Mar. 11, 1961, in Riga. Soviet Russian writer. Member of the CPSU from 1947.

The son of an engineer, Nagishkin graduated from an electrical engineering vocational school in 1928. For many years he worked as a graphic artist. His first works were published in newspapers in 1929; his first fairy tales were published in 1938. Among the collections of tales he wrote are The Boy Chokcho (1945), Amur Fairy Tales (1946), and Brave Azmun (1949). Nagishkin is also the author of the novel The Sagittarius Constellation, which was published posthumously in 1962. His historical novel about the Civil War in the Far East, The Heart of Bonivur (1944–53), is widely known. Nagishkin’s works have been translated into many languages.
