Leningrad Bolshoi Puppet Theater

 

one of theleading puppet theaters in the USSR; organized in 1931. From 1938 to 1957 it was called the Leningrad Puppet Theater, and in 1957 it got its present name. In 1960 the theater was awarded first prize and a gold medal at the Second International Festival of Puppet Theaters in Bucharest for the show In the Golden Paradise, based on a work by K. and J. Čapek. The theater troupe includes (1973) People’s Artists of the RSFSR V. S. Kiseleva, I. S. Al’perovich, and V. V. Kukushkin and Honored Artist of the RSFSR A. P. Korzakov. The principal director is Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR V. B. Sudarushkin (since 1966).
