24,590 ft (7,495 m) high, NW Tajikistan, in the Pamir; the highest point in Tajikistan. Originally called Garmo Peak, it was determined (1932–33) the highest peak in the USSR and was renamed Stalin Peak. In 1962 the peak was renamed Communism Peak.

Lenin Peak

the highest peak in the Zaalai range. It is in the central part of the range, on the border between the Kirghiz and Tadzhik SSR’s, and rises to 7,134 m. The crest of the range has an unbroken mantle of neve and ice. The Bol’shoi and Malyi Saukdara glaciers (25.2 and 13.1 km long) descend in the south, and the Lenin glacier lies to the north. The first Soviet ascent of the peak took place in 1934 by the mountaineers V. Abalakov, K. Chernukha, and I. Lukin. By 1973 the peak had been scaled 368 times.
