Leonid Ilich Borisov
Borisov, Leonid Il’ich
Born May 23 (June 4), 1897, in St. Petersburg. Soviet Russian writer.
Borisov began publishing his works in 1916. He is the author of the novel The Horse’s Gait (1927; see M. Gorky’s favorable review, Sobr. soch., vol. 30, 1956, p. 59); the novellas Repairs (1930), Work (1931), It’s Quite Possible (1933), and The Show is Over (1934); and the story collections The Beginning of the Story (1938), The Unsetting Sun (1940), Sunset (1941), The Waters of the Danube (1947), and others. He is concerned with the fate of art and the lives of writers—for example, the novella The Magician from Gel’-G’iu (1945, about A. Grin); the novels Jules Verne (1955) and Under the Flag of Catriona (1957, about Stevenson); and stories about N. V. Gogol, N. A. Nekrasov, F. I. Tiut-chev.Guy de Maupassant, and others. Borisov also published Parents, Teachers, Poets . . . the Book in My Life (1967).
