[′man·yə·wəl di′rek·shən ‚fīn·dər]Manual Direction Finder
an aircraft radio direction finder for the semiautomatic location of a bearing on transmitting stations on the ground. It differs from an automatic direction finder in that it lacks a tracking system; the antenna loop is rotated manually. Since the mid-1970’s, the manual direction finder has become practically obsolete.
