Kobyz

 

a Kazakh stringed instrument played with a bow. It has a scoop-shaped body, a short, bow-shaped bent neck, a large, flat head, and two strings. The lower, elongated part of the body is covered with a membrane; the upper, rounded part is open. It measures 600–730 mm long and is tuned in fourths. The instrument is similar in structure to the Uzbek kobuz.
