megablock

megablock

A block of paraffin-embedded tissue which is about four times larger than the standard tissue block.
Pros
Allows certain tissues (e.g., prostate) and malignancies (e.g., breast cancer) to be processed without sectioning.
Cons
More technically demanding, requires modifications in tissue processing equipment and microtomes, and storage of glass slides and blocks in different files, which creates problems in retrieval.
