Kodatskii, Ivan Fedorovich

(I. F. Kadatskii). Born June 19 (July 1), 1893, in Nikolaev; died Oct. 30, 1937. Soviet statesman and party figure. Became a member of the Communist Party in 1914. The son of an unskilled worker.

Kodatskii graduated from a crafts school and worked as a lathe operator in the Nikolaev shipbuilding plant; he took part in strikes and in illegal workers’ circles. Taking a job in the Novyi Lessner plant in Petrograd in 1914, he carried on party work among the workers of the Vyborg district of the city. Kodatskii became a member of the Vyborg district committee of the RSDLP in 1915. He was arrested in January 1917 and was freed as a result of the February Revolution. He was then elected to the Petrograd soviet and the Vyborg district duma. Kodatskii was a delegate to the Seventh (April) All-Russian Conference and the Sixth Congress of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). As a member of the Petrograd and Vyborg committees of the RSDLP(B) and the Petrograd soviet, Kodatskii took part in the preparation and execution of the Great October Revolution. After the revolution he held leading party and economic posts.

Kodatskii became chairman of the Leningrad soviet in 1930. He was a delegate to the Sixth, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fifteenth through Seventeenth Congresses of the party. At the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Congresses of the ACP (Bolshevik), he was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee and at the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses was elected a member of the Central Committee of the ACP(B). Kodatskii was also a member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR.
